Why a studio shoot might not be right for you

I love my studio. I built it very intentionally, and it’s a brilliant space for a lot of brand shoots. But here’s something I say to clients all the time and it often comes as a relief:
A studio shoot isn’t right for everyone.
When a studio doesn’t tell the full story
There’s this idea that professional brand photos automatically mean a studio. Clean backdrops, perfect light and everything neatly controlled. And for some businesses, that works beautifully.
But for others, it can feel a bit off.
If your work is hands-on, practical, or rooted in a real environment, a studio might not tell the full story. If your clients usually see you in action in a gym, a clinic, an office, or even your own home, that context can matter far more than a “perfect” backdrop. Choosing the right location for a brand photoshoot often makes the difference between photos that look good and photos that actually feel like you..
I often work with people who worry they need something more impressive or more styled than what they already have. In reality, the place where you actually work is often what helps you relax the most and come across as yourself. And that always shows in the photos.
Brand shoots don’t have to happen in a studio
That’s why I still shoot in lots of different places, alongside studio sessions.
I photograph clients in their homes (or borrowed/hired homes), where their business really lives day to day.

In gyms and studios, where movement and energy are part of the brand.

In business offices and clinics, where professionalism and trust matter.

In hotels and styled interiors, when the brief calls for something polished and elevated.

And outdoors, when space and natural light help everything feel more natural.

There isn’t a better option here. There’s just the right one for you.
You don’t have to decide the location for a brand photoshoot on your own
Most clients don’t immediately know exactly where their shoot should take place. That’s part of the process. I help you think it through based on your business, how you work, and how you want to be seen.
Sometimes the answer is my studio. Sometimes it isn’t.
The aim is always the same. To create brand photos that feel professional, natural, and genuinely aligned with you and your business. Give me a shout if you fancy a chat!
