This Is How to Prep for a Hypnobirthing Brand Shoot

What do you pack for a brand shoot when your business involves yoga mats, birth books and the occasional plastic pelvis?
That was the question Esme and I tackled when planning her hypnobirthing brand shoot.
Based in France (visiting Yorkshire this summer) but working with clients across the UK and beyond, Esme runs Bumps & Births Hypnobirthing, a warm, thoughtful brand that’s all about confidence, calm, and informed choice.
She wanted relaxed, professional images for her new website. Nothing too formal. Nothing too “posed.” Just real, grounded photos that show who she is and how she supports the families she works with.

This is how to do it…
Here’s how we made it happen and how you can prep for your own hypnobirthing brand shoot (or any shoot where your work is personal, practical and people-led).
1. Choose outfits that reflect how you really work
For Esme, that meant no suits or power dresses. We planned layered, casual pieces in soft greens and off-whites, her brand colours, with a few changes throughout the shoot to keep things varied.
Not every outfit needs to be totally different. Even just swapping a jumper or adding a jacket can make a big difference.
Tip: Think about what you’d wear to run a session or film content. If you wouldn’t wear heels or a blazer in real life, don’t force it for the photos.
2. Bring props that explain your work without needing a caption
This is where the magic happens. Esme brought:
- Framed diagrams
- Birth and hypnobirthing books
- A yoga mat
- A pelvis and doll (a true classic for any birth educator)
- Calming-toned notebooks
- Her phone and course notes
We staged a few “in-action” moments – like teaching breathing techniques, chatting to an imaginary client, or planning out a course – to make the images feel dynamic and real.
Tip: Props aren’t just for show. They help tell the story of what you actually do.
3. Keep it relaxed, but planned
Because we’d done a proper planning call (and made use of Pinterest!), Esme turned up to her hypnobirthing brand shoot calm and organised, which makes a massive difference to how you feel in front of the camera.
We knew which colours would work well in the studio, how to style the props, and even left room to capture some b-roll content along the way.
Tip: A little prep beforehand means less stress on the day. You want to walk in excited, not overwhelmed.
