The Secret to Scroll-Stopping Podcast Photos

Let’s be honest: the days of launching a podcast with just a Canva graphic and hoping people tune in are over.
If you want people to stop scrolling, take you seriously, and hit play – your visuals need to work hard. And that starts with having the right podcast photos.
It’s the first thing people will notice as they scroll through Spotify to find something new. You want to standout!
That’s exactly what Jo had in mind when she booked a brand shoot for Against the Tide, her podcast about challenging the status quo. She brought along Louise – her producer and creative collaborator – to help her prep, plan, and show up with confidence.

Together, they nailed it. And if you’re planning a shoot of your own, here’s what you can learn from the way they approached their podcast photos:
1. They didn’t just think “headshot”
Jo needed images for her podcast cover, social content, website banners, launch emails, and more. Instead of winging it, we planned specific scenes and setups that would give her versatile, on-brand podcast photos she could actually use.
Tip: Before your shoot, make a list of everywhere you plan to use your podcast photos – think big: thumbnails, guest promos, Instagram Reels covers, speaker bios… the lot. That way, you’re not scrambling later with one good image and 12 places to put it.
2. They staged real moments
From mock podcast recordings with mics and laptops to collaborative creative scenes, we captured Jo and Louise doing the work behind the podcast — not just smiling at the camera. That’s what makes the images scroll-stopping.
Tip: Bring props you’d actually use – your mic, laptop, headphones, even a coffee cup or notepad. And think in scenes: “Me setting up,” “Me deep in thought,” “Me laughing with my co-host.” These mini stories make for much more engaging visuals.
3. They kept the vibe relaxed
No awkward power poses. No stiff studio setups. Just great lighting, thoughtful outfits, and a shoot plan that let their personalities come through. (And yes, they booked a spa trip afterwards – 10/10 shoot day scheduling.)
Tip: Wear something you feel good in, plan your outfits in advance, and give yourself some buffer time before and after your shoot. You don’t need to force confidence – it shows up when you’re comfortable and prepared.
If you’re planning your own podcast photos, here’s your reminder:
The mic is for your voice. But the visuals? That’s how people see your brand.
