Product Photography for Skincare Brands

If you’ve poured your heart (and science) into your skincare formulas, the photos have to work just as hard. Good product photography for skincare brands makes your products look trustworthy, natural and desirable – without tipping into clinical or cluttered.
This shoot with Hana’s six-piece range was all about creating images that feel fresh, calm and professional while still giving a gentle nod to nature.
The brief
Hana wanted photos that looked minimal and consistent, with a touch of greenery to reflect her ingredients. Nothing fussy, nothing too “DIY kitchen experiment,” and definitely not harshly clinical. The goal? A gallery of images she could use across her website, social media and marketing materials.
How we planned it
For each product we made sure to capture:
- A clean top-down shot (perfect for online shops and brochures)
- A straight-on shot that shows off the packaging clearly
- A lifestyle version with hands in frame to add warmth and scale
We also styled a group shot to show the collection together – ideal for website banners and launch posts.
Styling choices that make a difference
Founder cameo: Hana wore white so we could capture a few subtle background shots of her, without the focus being on her directly.
Colour palette: soft whites and neutrals so the product stands out.
Greenery: natural cues to hint at ingredients.
Hands: kept simple and tidy (a quick nail tidy makes all the difference).
Gloves: we swapped the usual bright blue for white – a small detail, but it kept the look calm and cohesive.
Telling the ingredient story
Skincare photography works best when the images explain something without words. We used:
- Aloe vera leaves for aloe-based creams
- Grapes alongside grapeseed oil
- Real frankincense and myrrh resin stones
- A pestle and mortar to nod to the making process
- A pretty spatula to show texture swatches and product close-ups
It’s not about throwing props everywhere. It’s about choosing just enough to give your customer a sense of what’s inside the jar.

Why texture matters
We opened jars, filled them properly, and created neat swipes and dollops on tiles. Those close-up shots become perfect for Instagram carousels, website galleries and ads. They make the product feel tactile – which helps people imagine using it.
Keeping it consistent
We used the same background and lighting setup for each product so the whole range looks cohesive. That consistency makes a brand feel premium and helps customers quickly compare products when shopping online.
What to bring if you’re planning a skincare shoot
- Your products (labels spotless, jars filled)
- A few natural props that represent key ingredients
- Clean white gloves and a spatula or small spoon for texture shots
- A light-coloured top if you’re open to appearing in a couple of shots
- Any lab tools or props that look good on camera (beakers, pestle & mortar, etc.)
