How to Use Video in Your Business Even If You Hate Being on Screen

Let’s get this out of the way right away. You do not have to love being on camera to use video in your business.
You do not need to point at text, dance, lip sync or talk confidently to camera while pretending you are not thinking about your chin or your voice.
And you definitely don’t need to become “that person” online if that is not you.
But video does matter. And if you are running a business in 2026, it is one of the easiest ways to show what you do, how you work and why someone should trust you.
The good news is there are plenty of ways to use video that do not involve staring into a lens and saying “Hi guys” (and lets be honest how often do you skip those videos that do).
Here are some realistic, low pressure ways to use video in your business, even if you hate being on screen.
Start with hands, not faces
Some of the most effective video content never shows your face at all. Think about what your hands do every day in your business.
Typing. Packing orders. Making something. Writing notes. Flicking through a planner. Pouring coffee before you start work.
These small moments work beautifully as background video for your website, Instagram or email marketing. They give people context. They show real work happening. And they do it without you having to perform.
This kind of video is especially useful for service based businesses who want to show professionalism and process, not personality overload.
Use over the shoulder shots
If full face to camera makes you want to crawl under a desk, try filming from behind or slightly to the side.
Over the shoulder shots are brilliant for things like
Working on your laptop
Reviewing client notes
Editing
Designing
Planning
They feel natural and observational. Like someone is quietly watching you work, not interrogating you under a ring light.
These clips are perfect for reels, website banners and background video sections.
Let your space do the talking
Your workspace tells a story, whether that is a studio, a clinic, an office or your kitchen table.
Wide shots of your space. Details like props, tools, textures and light. Small movements like opening doors, adjusting things, tidying up or setting up for a client.
This type of video builds trust quickly. People like to see where they will be working with you. It makes your business feel real and established.
And again, no talking required.
Use voiceover instead of talking to camera
If you are happy to speak but hate watching yourself speak, voiceover is your friend.
You can film b roll of you working, your space or your products, then record a voiceover separately.
This takes the pressure off your face and your expressions, while still letting people hear you and connect with you.
You can even script this or keep it casual. Both work.
Use text led video
Text on screen videos are still very effective when done well.
Short clips of b roll with simple text overlays explaining what you do, what you help with or who you work with can perform incredibly well.
They are easy to consume and do not rely on confidence or performance. This is a great option if you want consistency without feeling exposed.
You do not need to do it alone
One of the biggest reasons people hate video is because they try to do everything themselves.
They are the talent, the camera operator, the director and the editor. It is exhausting and it shows.
When video is planned properly, filmed professionally and guided, it becomes much easier. You are not guessing what to do or worrying whether it looks right.
That is exactly why I offer Video Content Days in my studio.
You come in. We plan what you actually need the video for. We film it in a way that suits you. No pressure to perform. No pretending you love it.
And you leave with video you can actually use.
You do not need to love being on camera to use video well. You just need the right approach. Video should support your business, not make you dread marketing.
If you want video content that feels calm, professional and genuinely usable, without forcing you to be someone you are not, my Video Content Days are designed exactly for that.
If you are ready to create video without the awkwardness, get in touch and let’s plan something that works for you.
