Brand Photography for Nurse Aestheticians: Show Your Expertise Without Looking Clinical

When you work in aesthetics, your clients don’t just want results – they want trust. That’s why brand photography for nurse aestheticians is about so much more than a headshot in scrubs. It’s about showing your professionalism, your personality, and the care behind the treatments.
I recently planned a shoot with Jo, a nurse aesthetician who came back to the studio for a second brand shoot. Here’s what we covered and what you can take away if you’re planning your own.
Scrubs and beyond
Yes, scrubs matter. Jo is bringing her new burnt orange and beige sets, which look polished and modern. But I also encouraged her to pack something more “her” – leopard print trousers and a shirt she feels confident in. Why? Because clients don’t just want to see you in clinic mode. They also want to connect with the person behind the needle.
Tip: Aim for 2 outfits per hour. Mix clinical with casual so you’ve got images for every type of content – website, socials, PR features.

Props that tell the story
Props make your images feel real. For nurse aestheticians, this might include:
- Skincare products
- Boxes of filler (for shelf styling)
- Gloves and syringes for close-up hand shots
- Journals or medical books
- Leaflets about your latest treatment (Jo’s bringing laser machine brochures)
Even something simple like your iPad or laptop adds polish. I often add your brand visuals to screens afterwards so everything looks clean and professional.
Don’t forget the patient perspective
Jo is bringing a colleague to act as a pretend patient. This makes such a difference. Consultation shots, showing you listening, explaining, and engaging, create trust instantly. These images feel approachable while highlighting your expertise.
Tip: Ask a friend, colleague, or loyal client to step in as your “patient.” It’s less awkward than posing alone and gives you versatile images for marketing.

Showcase your environment
If you have framed logos, certificates, or branded posters, bring them along. Small details in the background can anchor your photos and reinforce your credibility. Think of it like styling your clinic in a way that works visually, even if the photos are taken in a studio.
Learn from your last shoot
Jo had done a mini shoot before but felt it was a little rushed. This time we’re slowing down, revisiting what worked, and adding new shots. If you’ve had brand photos done in the past, ask yourself: which images did you use most? Which ones fell flat? That’s your guide for what to focus on next time.
The essentials checklist
Here’s what Jo is bringing and what you might want to copy:
- 2 scrub sets (neutral and colour)
- 1–2 personal outfits (something that feels like you)
- Skincare products, filler boxes, gloves
- Leaflets or brochures for treatments
- Journals/books to show your expertise
- iPad or laptop for digital shots
- Framed logo or certificates
- A pretend patient for consultation photos
And here’s what Jo thought of her shoot…
I’ve now had two photo shoots with Maryanne and each one has been such a great experience. She has a wonderful way of making you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, which really comes through in the photos. The images are exactly what I was looking for: professional yet natural, and perfect for my branding. Maryanne is warm, friendly, and so talented at what she does. I’m really happy with the results and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for branding photography.
