A B-roll Shot list for female business owners

If the idea of video content makes you want to crawl under your desk, I get it. You’re running a business, not auditioning for a Netflix documentary.

But if you’ve ever found yourself needing something to add to your Instagram reel, sales page, or email funnel and all you’ve got is an awkward selfie and a Boomerang from 2019… you’re not alone.
That’s where b-roll comes in.
B-roll isn’t about performing or being perfect. It’s the behind-the-scenes footage that brings your brand to life. And when done well, it adds polish, personality, and a sense of professionalism without you having to say a word.
So whether you’re planning a full shoot or booking onto one of my B-Roll Content Days, here’s a go-to b-roll shot list to help you get the most out of your time on camera:
B-Roll Shot List for Female Business Owners
Pick the ones that suit your business best – no need to do them all in one go!
1. Working on a laptop or phone
At a desk, on the sofa, in a café – this one’s a classic. It’s simple, versatile, and instantly says “yes, I run a business.”
2. Writing in a notebook or planner
Great for content around planning, reflecting, or launching something new.
3. Holding your product (or a mock-up)
Even if you’re a service provider, holding a book, a phone, or branded print materials works well.
4. Behind-the-scenes of your process
Flicking through fabric swatches, setting up your workspace, packing a parcel, prepping client gifts – whatever shows how the magic happens.
5. Walking through a door or down the street
Adds movement and makes a perfect “intro” moment for your reels or video headers.
6. Using tools of your trade
Whether it’s a laptop, camera, skincare products, stationery, or a mixing bowl – this is where your personality and business type shine through.
7. Smiling, laughing, looking off-camera
Not everything needs to be “doing something.” Natural, candid moments help your audience connect with you.
8. Working with a client or chatting to someone
Even if it’s staged, this footage builds trust and shows you in action.
9. Typing, scrolling, or using your phone
Yes, we’re all on our phones – but it still works, especially when paired with captions or text overlays.
10. Adding or adjusting props
Straightening a vase, moving your laptop, pouring coffee – adds natural movement and makes great filler footage.
What to wear?
Stick with 1–2 outfits that feel like you (but slightly elevated). Avoid busy patterns and neon if you can (unless thats your look!). And bring layers; cardigans, jackets, or scarves can give you extra options without a full outfit change.
A quick note:
You don’t need to be “good on video.” You just need to show up. I’ll guide you through it all, make sure it feels relaxed, and you’ll leave with polished, professional footage that actually feels like you.
