Which photos are useful for coaches

You might be considering having a personal branding shoot but you’re wondering which photos are useful for coaches…

Obviously actually having any professional photos is going to be useful (especially if you’ve been using holiday snaps from 10 years ago). But there are definitely some photos that you’ll find more useful than others…

And I know because I’ve worked with a lot of coaches over the last few years.

Headshots

The humble headshot is the first photo that you need and it needs to be best one you’ve ever had. And I don’t mean that from a technical point of view. I mean that it needs to be one that you’re actually happy to share.

You could have the most technically amazing photo but if you don’t like how you look, you won’t share it.

This is the photo you’re going to use on every profile photo, every time you’re featured on a blog or in a magazine.

It’s going to be the photo that people recognise on social media or while you’re sat having a coffee in a local cafe (and someone comes over to say hello).

So you had better like it!

The “Negative space” or “offer” photo

You’re a coach and you’re going to have offers, and be selling your services.

You’re more than likely going to have online and in person services and you’re definitely going to need a way to show them off.

You could just create a snazzy little graphic in something like CANVA but if you want to be more visible its definitely better to use your own lovely face…

So a little bit of “negative space” in a photo is so important (an area in a photo that’s relatively uncluttered) as it allows you to add some writing.

If you look at how the “famous” coaches do it, you’ll see that they make a lot of use of this type of photo.

The Hero

The hero shot is generally known as a strong photo because you’re expected to be posing and showing your strength (standing like a superhero) …but these days its just the photo you’re going to use on the front page of your website (often called the hero image).

So it’s going to be a key image to your personal branding.

The statement

The photo you’ll be known for. The one people remember.

For this photo its ok to think outside the box… To do something a little unusual and include larger than life props or over the top locations.

The behind the scenes

Its not all fancy dresses, balloons and fresh cut flowers.

You’re going to need to show that you’re a real person behind the INSPIRATIONAL photos. That could be by showing the outtakes from your shoot…

Or could just be you at home or in your favourite cafe. Maybe sat at your desk, making lunch or just reading a magazine.

You might want to include your family, your pets, your favourite book.

Even if you don’t have a house that photographs particularly well (or you really can’t be arsed tidying up…) you can make use of BRANDING DAYS.

And finally…

The main thing is to be visible…so whether you’re going with a professional photographer or you’re just going to share your own photos its important to keep showing up.

And if you need a little help…you know where I am!
