15 Sitting Pose Ideas for Relaxed, Confident Brand Photos

You know that feeling when you’re standing in front of a camera, not quite sure where to put your hands or how to hold your body? Sitting poses can take the pressure off, literally. They instantly soften your posture, help you feel more relaxed, and open up a whole new set of natural-feeling photo options.

Whether we’re shooting in the studio or on location, these 15 sitting pose ideas are some of my favourites for creating a relaxed but confident look in brand photography.

So if you’re planning your own shoot and wondering how to look (and feel) more like you in front of the camera, here are 15 sitting pose ideas to try:

1. The Crossed-Leg

Sit cross-legged on the floor or a low seat, leaning slightly forward like you’re deep in conversation with your dream client.

2. Lean-Back & Laugh

Sit on a chair or bench and lean back slightly with a soft smile or full-on laugh—great for a natural, friendly feel.

3. Floor with knees up.

Sat on the floor with your knees up and either leaning on one, or both of them.

4. Laptop Lap Shot

The classic work-from-anywhere photo. Sit with your laptop, maybe grab a cuppa or even put your feet on the table.

5. Soft Focus Thinking Pose

Elbows on your knees, chin in hand or leaning on hand. Natural. Calm. Reflective.

7. Taking a video call

Sitting with a mug or glass, as if you’re taking a zoom call or chatting with a friend. Relaxed body, genuine expressions.

8. Perch on the Edge

Sit on the edge of a bench, sofa or low table with your hands resting on your knees. Creates a ready-for-action kind of energy.

9. Grab a book

Great for relaxed images and always a good talking point on social media.

10. Curled into a sofa

Curled up on a sofa, cosy vibes, maybe with a cuppa and a good book.

11. Perch on a desk

Leant against a desk (remembering not to squish your thighs too much) Think “relaxed but composed.”

12. Time to celebrate

Grab a glass of something nice (or even a bottle) it’s time to celebrate.

13. Sit on a stool

Use a prop like a stool, crate, or ottoman for a styled but informal seated shot.

14. Sat on the floor

If the setting allows, just simply sitting on the floor surrounded by your props.

15. Quick Pose Reset Between Shots

Sometimes, it’s the moment between photos that gives you gold – like adjusting your seat or shifting your posture. I always keep the camera rolling during these.

A Note on Posing

The best poses don’t feel like poses. They feel like you. That’s why I’ll guide you gently through every step, helping you feel comfortable while creating polished, professional photos that still feel completely authentic.

If you’ve ever said, “I’m not a natural in front of the camera,” just know this: most of my clients say that too and we still get incredible photos.
